Megan, Owner
“I love to transform one’s inner beauty and confidence into an outward reflection of perfection!”
Meet Megan
Owner & Lead Stylist, Larkspur Salon Spa
Megan has been behind the chair since 2002 — more than two decades spent turning a craft into a calling. She’s the owner and lead stylist of Larkspur Salon Spa, the salon and spa she opened in North Raleigh, NC in July 2013. Larkspur holds Aveda’s top-tier Exclusive status, meaning Megan and her team use the complete, 100% vegan Aveda professional system across the salon’s full menu of hair and spa services — color, cut, treatments, and retail — for every guest.
Trained the Aveda Way
Megan’s formal cosmetology education began at Mitchell’s Academy, but it wasn’t until she started working in an Aveda salon that she understood how much the quality of the products — and the culture behind a company — can matter.
Aveda’s training taught her to start with the why. It goes beyond color, product, and technique to how beauty connects to wellness, sustainability, and the world around us. Megan was drawn to Aveda’s commitment to sourcing high-quality ingredients responsibly and building partnerships that positively impact the communities and cultures those ingredients come from. She also loves Aveda’s Ayurvedic influence, where beauty is paired with rituals designed to promote relaxation, stress relief, and overall well-being.
When it comes to color, Megan believes Aveda’s system is second to none. It’s fully customizable and formulated to protect the integrity of the hair, which lets her create something truly individual for every guest who sits in her chair.
Her Signature: Cut, Color, and a Good Challenge
Ask Megan to pick a specialty and she’ll tell you she can’t choose between cutting and coloring — she loves the variety and creative challenge of both. What really lights her up is a specific kind of guest.
“What excites me most is when someone says, ‘No stylist has ever been able to…’ That’s when I’m all in. Challenge accepted.”
Why She Opened Larkspur
Megan knew that if she wanted to create the guest experience she envisioned, she needed to build her own space and her own culture. In 2012, Larkspur became a vision — and after what she calls the ultimate labor of love, it opened its doors in July 2013.
Along the way, Megan discovered a passion for teaching. She wanted to give new stylists room to learn, grow, and make mistakes in an encouraging environment, with a team behind them every step of the way — a deliberate move away from the “figure it out” approach she experienced early in her own career, and toward one where people can develop their craft with real confidence.
The Larkspur Experience
Megan wanted Larkspur to be a beautiful space where guests and professionals alike feel welcome, seen, and heard — and leave feeling beautiful.
“I know I ‘do hair,’ but for me, it has always been so much more than that. It’s about creating relationships, building confidence, and creating a community that feels like family.”
That philosophy shows up in the details. Every service at Larkspur is designed to feel like a little retreat from the hectic outside world, starting with the salon’s complimentary stress-relieving rituals — a chance for guests and team members alike to take a deep breath, quiet their minds, and be fully present.
Megan and her team also take pride in guest education. They want guests to understand not just what they’re doing in the chair, but why — and how to recreate that look and feel at home. For Larkspur, the experience doesn’t end when a guest walks out the door.
Life Outside Larkspur
Outside of her first love — making people feel beautiful — Megan has the best fan club at home. Her husband Kevin has been her ride-or-die for nearly all of their lives, officially for 23 years. Beyond helping run the business behind the scenes, he’s Larkspur’s resident hype guy and, conveniently, the best shear sharpener around.
Megan and Kevin are raising two dynamic kids, ages 7 and 9, and she calls being their mom her favorite title yet. Their family also includes Violet the Boxer, Hokie the Holland Lop, and Nessie the bearded dragon.
When she’s not at Larkspur, Megan is usually outside with her family — hiking, camping, boating, paddleboarding, or gathered around a fire at home. That time together is what recharges her and keeps her inspired.
Giving Back
Megan prefers to keep the spotlight on her guests and her team rather than on herself — but Larkspur quietly partners with charity: water and Carolina Boxer Rescue as part of its ongoing fundraising efforts.
